Since 2005, Laura Kretzer has served as Executive Director of Judi's Place for Kids.
Judi’s Place for Kids – a bright solution for abused children - a community working together promoting safety and justice, offering hope and healing so that all may thrive and reach their full potential.
Founded in 1999, Judi’s Place for Kids is named for Kentucky’s Former First Lady Judi Patton to recognize her involvement in the establishment of children’s advocacy centers across Kentucky and particularly the local center formed here in Pikeville, her hometown. The center opened in its first home in 2001 and moved in 2008 in order to better serve children. Judi’s Place for Kids obtained accreditation from the National Children’s Alliance in 2009, recognizing its adherence to national standards for children’s advocacy centers.
Today, your donations mean that almost 300 children per year from Pike, Floyd, Johnson, Martin, and Magoffin Counties receive essential services in the investigation and treatment of suspected child abuse. Adults are trained to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse through the Darkness to Light Stewards of Children training. Professionals work together to provide the best investigation and treatment. No child or caregiver has ever been charged for these services.
Judi’s Place for Kids is committed to remaining up to date in the best practices in serving abused children through employment of well qualified staff members who receive ongoing training and development. We will continue to place the needs of the children first while continuing to advance the multi-disciplinary team approach. We are committed to expansion of community outreach and education services. We are also pursuing funding to continue to maintain and improve our building to better meet the needs. Our future depends on you!
Judi’s Place for Kids depends on a variety of partnerships, including accreditation by National Children's Alliance, membership in the Kentucky Association of Children's Advocacy Centers. Judi's Place for Kids also relies on the support of the Child Victim's Trust Fund to assist with the costs of medical examinations, as well as United Way of Eastern Kentucky. Additionally, we are a member of the Kentucky Nonprofit Network and the Southeast Kentucky Chamber of Commerce. We are also a partner with Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky and the Partnership to Eliminate Child Abuse.
